Remembrance Day At Twyford House
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
This week, at Twyford House, we had the honour of remembering those who have fallen.
Our residents took part in their own remembrance day service, complete with their 2-minute silence at 11.
We were honoured to listen to a poem, written by our very own writer, resident Ken.
With tears in our eyes, we continued to show our appreciation throughout the day. With our residents and the team, taking part in songs, hymns and prayers throughout the day.
However, for our residents, the most important part of the day was sharing their stories and even some memories of wartime. From stories passed to them by their parents of WWI to memories of their loved ones who had served in either of our wars.
Stories were told, tears were shed, memories were remembered. What better way to show respect to those who gave their lives for our freedom.
Every week, our residents take part in a number of different activities that aim to get them active or engage their brains. For our current residents, nothing is as important to them as taking part in a remembrance day service. This is where we learn more about each other, and the families and backgrounds each has come from. For this, we can only thank our residents and their families and hope that we did their families proud.
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.
