Sleep changes everything. From immune function and memory to mood and mobility, a good night’s rest is essential for health and happiness. For older adults, quality sleep is particularly vital - it supports balance, alertness and coordination, and dramatically reduces the risk of falls.

At Lovett Care, this understanding is shaping a new, science-led approach to night-time care. Using cutting-edge AI technology, our teams are helping residents enjoy deeper, more restorative sleep while staying safe and supported throughout the night.

Technology That Cares

Research shows that residents in some care settings get less than five hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Traditional hourly night checks, while well-intentioned, can disturb sleeping patterns — leaving residents tired and more vulnerable to accidents the following day.

At Lovett Care, we believe our residents deserve more. More uninterrupted sleep. More safety from falls. More energy to embrace each day. That’s why we’re investing in technology that delivers exactly that.

As proud winners of the Innovation in Care Home Technology award at the 2025 Leaders in Care Awards, Lovett is committed to using technology to enhance and personalise the outstanding care we provide across our homes.

A Smarter Night’s Sleep in Cheshire

At Wilmslow Manor, Bramhall Manor and Cheadle Manor, three of our Cheshire homes, innovative AI systems are transforming the way we deliver care at night.

At Bramhall and Cheadle, residents’ rooms are being fitted with advanced Sensio falls prevention technology. Using discreet infra-red 3D sensors, the system detects movement and alerts care teams when there’s an increased risk of falling. This allows staff to respond immediately, preventing accidents and ensuring residents’ safety, all without interrupting their rest.

Meanwhile, at Wilmslow Manor, our Ally intelligent acoustic monitoring system uses sensitive microphones and AI to detect unusual sounds. The system learns each resident’s individual night-time patterns and alerts staff when something changes.

“The real power of AI-powered care technology lies in its ability to truly know each person,” explains Rowena, Home Manager at Bramhall Manor. “These systems learn what’s typical for Mrs Smith versus Mr Jones - their unique night-time movements and behaviours. They’re not just monitoring; they’re learning and adapting to each individual every night. That depth of understanding helps us deliver truly personalised care.”

Better Rest, Brighter Days

The results so far have been remarkable. Average response times to fall alerts are now just over one minute, enabling teams to reach residents quickly when needed. Since implementation, there have been no falls resulting in injury or extended time on the floor, and residents are enjoying significantly more uninterrupted sleep.

“Traditional night care often involved opening doors, turning on lights and gently waking residents to check they were safe,” says Rowena. “It meant fragmented sleep and tired, vulnerable residents the next day. These new systems give us reassurance that residents are protected and supported, while allowing them to rest peacefully through the night. Families love knowing their loved ones are safe, even when they can’t be there themselves.”

Families have already seen the difference.

“We’ve noticed a huge improvement in Mum’s energy and enthusiasm,” says the daughter of a Cheadle Manor resident. “She’s sleeping better than she has in years, and it’s had such a positive effect on her daily life. It gives us peace of mind to sleep more deeply too.”

Redefining What It Means to Care

For Lovett, this is just the beginning. Our mission is to continually raise the standard of care, not just during the day but around the clock.

Sleep is one of the most important pillars of health. When residents sleep better, they thrive - physically, mentally and emotionally.

At Lovett Care, we’ll continue to challenge and redefine what it means to deliver more for our elders, putting science, evidence and compassion at the heart of everything we do.
